Welcome to the Cultural and Embellishing Association of Old Alonissos (PESPA)

Through these pages we will try to keep you informed about the ongoing activities and news of our association.
PESPA has recently elected a new board of directors, who aim to preserve the cultural character and national wealth of Old Alonissos.

Our association includes more than one hundred members, who share the same opinions on the subjects of tradition and culture. Our target is to preserve our cultural heritage and to try to embellish Old Alonissos as it has a very special history that needs to be preserved. Moreover we aim to safeguard our traditional image and to promote the culture and history of our island.
The Cultural and Embellishing Association of Old Alonissos was established in 1993 in order to develop the area of Old Alonissos and to turn to advantage the folklore(traditional folkloric  art, storiology, architecture etc) of Old Alonissos.
We should mention at this point that even though PESPA was reduced to inaction for a few years, in 2004 it was “re-established” and is now one of the most active associations of the island of Alonissos.  PESPA has organized countless cultural festival, theatres, street theatres, photography exhibitions and more. Our association works in close collaboration with the municipal authorities of Alonissos and together we have managed to revive local traditions like the Alonissos traditional wedding in August, the local threshes in July, which constitute an inextricable part of the local history.
